Mackie - furious with selectors
MACKIE WILL USE ANGER 'POSITIVELY'
Scottish sprinter Ian Mackie insists he will make dramatic return to the
Olympics in four years' time to prove a point to the selectors who dropped him
from the British relay team this year.
Mackie missed out on selection for the individual events and was in Sydney to
take part in the relay.
But the Fife flyer was furious when he was axed from the team and he has now
vowed to be selected in Athens 2004.
"I will be back next year and for the next Olympics. This has only made me
more determined," he told the Daily Record.
"I am going to use this anger positively. I am going to use the fire burning
inside to drive me and come back and show the middle finger to the selectors.
"I am going to run so fast next season that they cannot ignore me. In my
experience this year, you can't trust them so I will have to make it impossible
for them not to pick me.
"I am going to come back mentally stronger from this. I am in great shape
after five weeks here in Australia and I am feeling really good."
