The Washington Redskins may not have a head coach, but they have named their co-ordinators.

Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Jim Zorn and veteran coach Greg Blache have been hired as the team's offensive and defensive co-ordinators, the Redskins announced Saturday.

Washington owner Daniel Snyder said in a release that a replacement for former coach Joe Gibbs will not be announced until after the Super Bowl.

"The process of selecting a new head coach continues, although no hire is planned until after the Super Bowl so as to not distract from the championship game as well as to keep our options open," Snyder said. "We are on track with our interviews."

Zorn replaces Al Saunders, who was fired.

The Redskins also dismissed assistant Gregg Williams, who had been mentioned as a possible successor to Gibbs.

Zorn had spent the previous seven seasons as the Seahawks' quarterbacks coach. He also had a nine-year playing career with Seattle, teaming with Steve Largent to form one of the most potent duos in NFL history.

The 54-year-old Zorn is credited with the development of current Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.

Blache has 21 years of NFL coaching experience, spending the last four seasons as the Redskins' defensive co-ordinator and defensive line coach.

"Greg Blache is an outstanding defensive coach with deep experience," Snyder said. "Players respond to him, and respect him. He has our full confidence. We're counting on Jim to continue Jason Campbell's growth while moving our offence forward."

Blache previously spent five years as the Chicago Bears' defensive co-ordinator.

"Greg Blache has down an outstanding job for us these past four seasons and is an outstanding coach with the respect of the entire organisation and players," Gibbs said.

Campbell said is looking forward to working with Zorn, whom he met at the NFL combine before being drafted by the Redskins.

"I've heard a lot of great things about him, both as a coach and person," Campbell said.
