PATS-GIANTS GAME TO MAKE TV HISTORY

The New England Patriots' quest for a perfect season will be simulcast on the NFL Network, NBC and CBS.

National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell announced the unprecedented news with kick-off slated for 2015 EST in the game between the undefeated Patriots (15-0) and the New York Giants (10-5).

The game was originally scheduled to be shown only on the NFL Network, which is available to approximately 40 per cent of the nation.

It is the first three-way simulcast in the history of the NFL and the first simulcast of any kind since Super Bowl I.

"We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans," Goodell said.

"What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever."

The 1972 Dolphins, who completed a 17-0 season en route to winning the Super Bowl, were the only other team to start a regular season 14-0.

The league expanded to a 16-game schedule in 1978.

By making this move, the league has also allowed the fans to witness some other potentially record-breaking performances.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has 48 touchdown passes and is one shy of tying Peyton Manning's record of 49 set in 2004.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Randy Moss - who has 21 TDs - is within one touchdown catch of tying Jerry Rice's all-time mark set in 1987.

In addition, the Patriots have 551 total points and need six on Saturday to surpass the mark of 556 set by the Minnesota Vikings in 1998.
