After receiving clearance from the medical staff, running back Kevin Jones will practice with the Chicago Bears for the first time on Saturday night.
Jones, who signed a one-year deal with Chicago before the starting of training camp, has made a speedy recovery from right knee surgery in January. He suffered a torn ACL in the knee against Kansas City on December 23.
Last season in Detroit, the former Virginia Tech star rushed for 581 yards and a career-high eight touchdowns on 153 carries and also caught passes for 197 yards. However, he was released by the Lions on March 23.
The Bears signed Jones six weeks after they released Cedric Benson, who wore out his welcome with the team due to his off-the-field problems.
A four-year veteran, Jones could compete with rookie Matt Forte, a second-round pick out of Tulane, for playing time.
Adrian Peterson, who rushed 510 yards and three TDs on 151 carries last year, was the Bears' starter for the last month after Benson suffered a season-ending leg injury.
