The New England Patriots made it back-to-back wins at the start of the new season after a scrappy 13-10 victory over the New York Jets.

  • Aaron Dobson: Celebrates his touchdown for the New England Patriots
  • Tom Brady: Connected with Aaron Dobson for an early touchdown
  • Geno Smith: Endured a difficult night for the Jets

In difficult conditions neither quarterback impressed, however crucially Tom Brady threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Dobson in the first quarter for the Patriots.

Brady, though, completed just 19-of-39 passes for 185 yards, while New England managed just nine first downs and 234 yards.

And it took two field goals from Stephen Gostkowski to finally seal the win.

Gostkowski, having adding the extra point to Dobson's touchdown, slotted over from 21 yards in the first quarter and then from 30 yards in the second period.

Nick Folk replied with a 37-yard field goal for the Jets, while Bilal Powell crossed from three yards in the third quarter.

However neither side were able to trouble the scorers in the final quarter - with rookie Jets quarterback Geno Smith, in particular, struggling.

Smith, who had been repeatedly under pressure taking too long with his throws, was intercepted three times as the Jets desperately pushed for victory - with his passes to Aqib Talib (2) and Alfonzo Dennard picked off.

"I am glad we started the season off 2-0 and two wins in our division. We just need to do it better," Brady said. "That is a good defence and they really challenge you.

"You learn from every game. These games aren't easy. Our defence played great and got us the ball. We kept fighting."
