Jets quarterback Sanchez threw three interceptions to take his season's tally to 13 before he was replaced by second-year pro Greg McElroy, who was making his NFL debut.
Arizona safety Kerry Rhodes picked off Sanchez twice and cornerback Patrick Peterson once.
McElroy led a 10-play, 69-yard drive that culminated with a one-yard pass to Jeff Cumberland at the start of the fourth quarter for the only touchdown of the game.
The Cardinals' offence was equally anaemic; quarterback Ryan Lindley completed just 10-of-31 passes for 72 yards and running back Beanie Wells had 22 yards on 15 carries.
Jay Feely's two field goals, in the second and fourth quarters respectively, were all Arizona had to show for their efforts.
The moves the Jets to 5-7 but could not prevent the New England Patriots clinching the AFC East with victory in Miami. The Cardinals drop to 4-8 and bring up the rear in the NFC West.
