International Olympic Committee chiefs have told London 2012 organisers they urgently need to end the uncertainty over the venue for two sports.

Denis Oswald, chairman of the IOC co-ordination commission that monitors London's progress, expressed concern the venues for badminton and rhythmic gymnastics still needed to be finalised.

The two sports had originally been planned to be located in a £40million temporary venue in north Greenwich but organisers are looking to site them either in Wembley Arena or in a temporary venue in Barking which could tap into regeneration money.

Oswald told the IOC's session in Copenhagen: "London has still not yet achieved the final masterplan and the venue is still under discussion.

"I have to express a concern that three years before the Games the venue has not been finalised, but meetings are going to take place with these federations within the coming week and we are confident a solution can be found.

"It's urgent that the masterplan be finalised and we hope this will be done before next visit of co-ordination commission in November.''

London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe said officials from the badminton and gymnastics world federations were coming to London next week to be shown the possible new venues.

Coe promised: "We will resolve this - the federations quite sensibly are going to reserve their views until they have had a chance to go to the venues.

"We want them to help us in making the judgements and we are not driving them towards any particular solution.

"We have married all the other sports to venues based on the three simple principles of cost, legacy and athlete experience and we will get these two sports in the right venue with the best balance of these principles.''

Coe said he was confident the venues would be finalised by the end of this year.

Coe also told IOC members preparations were ahead of schedule and the venues and Olympic Stadium would be ready "in plenty of time to test and practise".

Oswald praised London's progress generally and said promises made about the legacy of the Games were being fulfilled.

He said: "LOCOG maintain a strong leadership in order to maintain their bid promises, their structure is solid and strong because there is a very good team spirit and corporate culture.

"You have seen the progress made in Olympic Park, not only the venues but also the roads and bridges in the park. There had been some concerns about the financing of the village but the ODA agreed to cover any funding gaps allowing work to start on time.''
