Just like Ross Fisher at Wentworth, Londoner Brian Davis shot a closing 64 on Sunday and had to be content with second place.

Davis, fifth in his two previous starts on the US Tour, finished two behind Rory Sabbatini at the HP Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, Texas.

The South African, the joint overnight leader with American John Mallinger, also returned a 64 for a 19 under par total of 261.

Former Spanish Open champion Davis was joint leader after four birdies in five holes from the seventh, but Sabbatini moved clear again and kept his nerve when Davis put the pressure on again with a 26-foot eagle putt on the long 16th.

It is the third second place of his US Tour career and he has now earned over $1million from his last three tournaments.

For Sabbatini it is a fifth victory on the circuit.
