Will MacKenzie secured his second career victory with a play-off triumph in the Viking Classic after Marc Turnesa squandered a three-shot lead on the back nine on Sunday.

While the United States carved up Europe in the Ryder Cup, Turnesa did not show the same killer instinct at the at the Annandale Golf Club.

With the eyes of the golf world focused on that battle for international supremacy, Turnesa faltered down the stretch, double bogeying the par-four 17th hole en route to a two-under-par 70 in the final round to force the play-off with MacKenzie and Brian Gay.

All three players finished with a 19-under-par 269, with MacKenzie and Gay each carding four-under final rounds of 68.

A PGA Tour rookie who is ranked 358th in the world, Turnesa was the leader after the first three rounds, only to fall to MacKenzie, who birdied the second extra hole to claim the victory.

Gay was eliminated on the first play-off hole, when he bogeyed the par-four 18th, after MacKenzie and Turnesa carded pars.

MacKenzie's lone PGA Tour victory came in 2006 and his best finish this year was a tie for fourth at the John Deere Classic.

Chad Campbell, who won here last year, competed for the United States in the Ryder Cup this week.
