Rising star Anthony Kim rallied to win the AT&T National at Congressional Country Club - and £500,000 - in Maryland on Sunday.

The 23-year-old was three shots off the lead at the start of the final round but shot a bogey-free five-under-par 65 to finish on 12-under 268 and win by two strokes from Swede Fredrik Jacobson.

Kim became the first American under 25 to win on the PGA Tour twice in the same year since Tiger Woods, who is out for the remainder of the season after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery.

Jacobson won a place in the Open Championship as a result of his performance which saw him come home in just 30 strokes, grabbing four successive birdies from the 14th.

Last Monday, Jacobson lost in a play-off in the Open international qualifier in Michigan.

Kenny Perry, twice a winner in recent weeks, and Rocco Mediate, loser of the play-off with Tiger Woods for the US Open, have also earned Open exemptions.

Perry, who chose not to try to qualify for Torrey Pines, has already said he does not plan to be at The Open either, and his spot will go the next highest player on the world rankings not yet in the field, most likely Colombian Camilo Villegas.

Mediate plays in this week's Scottish Open at Loch Lomond.
