Tiger Woods shot a final-round one-under-par 71 to claim the Buick Invitational by eight shots.

The world number one finished 19 under par to win the event at Torrey Pines near San Diego for the fourth consecutive year and the the sixth time overall.

Woods, 32, was well clear of second-placed Ryuji Imada, who moved up from eighth by carding a five-under-par 67.

Stewart Cink, who began the final round in second place, shot a one-over-par 73 and finished in a tie for third with Rory Sabbatini at nine under.

Cink and Woods were the only two golfers to enter the final round having shot three rounds in the 60s but neither could make it four.

Woods earned £473,000 for his 62nd career victory - the same number of wins as Arnold Palmer. Now only Sam Snead (82), Jack Nicklaus (73) and Ben Hogan (64) stand ahead of him on the PGA Tour's all-time list.

Woods began the fourth round with an eight-shot lead but soon extended it to nine with a birdie at the first first hole.

That became 10 when he picked up another shot at he sixth before a bogey at the eighth saw him complete the front nine in 35.

Woods made three birdies on the back nine but also recorded three consecutive bogeys to finish with a round in the 70s for the first time the Deutsche Bank Championship last September. He had posted 19 consecutive rounds in the 60s.
