World number three Jim Furyk successfully defended his Canadian Open title thanks to a final-round seven-under-par 64 for a one-stroke victory over Vijay Singh.

Furyk was four under par after four holes, courtesy of a hole-in-one at the par-three fourth, and was eight under after a run of three birdies at the start of the back nine - before dropping a stroke on the last.

He claimed his 13th PGA Tour victory and first since last September in Ancaster after signing for a 16-under 268 total on Angus Glen's links-style North Course at Markham.

Singh had a chance to tie with a 20-foot birdie putt at the 18th. But it broke under the hole, and he was forced to settle for a par and second place.

The Fijian won the Canadian Open in 2004 when he edged local favourite Mike Weir in a play-off.

Americans Ryan Palmer and George McNeill finished with final rounds of five under par to tie for third - a shot clear of Bob Heintz and first-round leader Hunter Mahan.
