CAMPBELL CLINCHES WIN

Chad Campbell, beaten only by David Toms last week, now has his first US Tour victory for 22 months.

The 31-year-old American took the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in California by three shots from compatriot Scott Verplank and Swede Jesper Parnevik.

Campbell, who finished with a 71 for 25-under-par total of 335, moves up to fourth in the United States Ryder Cup standings as a result.

Before his second place at the Sony Open in Hawaii he was down in 31st spot.

One ahead with 18 holes to play, Campbell stretched that to four when he followed a monster 391-yard drive at the downwind ninth with a 33-foot eagle putt.

It looked as if he might blow things when he found a hazard and double-bogeyed the 10th, then drove into the lake on the 13th and hit his next attempt into a fairway bunker.

But the Texan salvaged a bogey with a brilliant recovery to seven feet and birdies at the 14th and 15th took him clear again.

Parnevik, out of contention until a 62 on Saturday, had been only one behind with three to play, but bogeyed the 16th and so a 67 was not good enough to give him a first win on the circuit since 2001.

A drive into water on the eighth left England's Justin Rose with no hope of achieving his maiden success in America.

After back-to-back rounds of 64 and 66, he had gone into the final round six behind and the double-bogey left him too much ground to make up.

Collated final-round scores (USA unless stated, par 72):
