Olin Browne opened up a three-shot lead and held on to pick up his first win
in six years at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Browne, who entered the round in a five-way tie for the lead, finished at
14-under 271 after a final round of 67, one shot clear of Jason Bohn.
It was a huge win for Browne, who had not won since capturing the 1999
Colonial and entered this week ranked 119th on the tour money list. He not only
picked up a first prize but also earned a two-year exemption with the victory.
Browne birdied four of his first 10 holes and did not give a shot back until a
bogey on the par-four 15th. He responded with a birdie on the 17th, a par at the
18th and then had to watch Bohn finish before celebrating his third career
victory.
"I am speechless," Browne said. "I stayed in the moment and was really
focused on what I had to do and was able to pull it off."
Bohn signed for a three-under 68 and had a chance to tie but needed an eagle
at the par-five 18th.
His drive found the left rough and his approach was
pin-high but off the green just above a bunker. He failed to chip in but made
birdie to finish a stroke back.
Vaughn Taylor carded a 68 and finished third at 10 under.
Tiger Woods took a one-shot lead after the first round but failed to get
anything going since. The world number one shot an even-par 71 that included a
double-bogey at the par-four first. He finished at three-under 281.
