Little-known rookie Ryan Palmer came from five shots behind in Sunday's final
round to score a shocking victory in the £2.5million Funai Classic at Disney
World.
Ranked 217th in the world, Palmer raided the Magnolia course for 10 birdies in
a bogey-free round.
His spectacular 10-under-par 62 was the best final round by a winner on the
PGA Tour this year.
Taking advantage of ideal conditions, the 28-year-old Palmer finished at
22-under 266, three shots ahead of defending champion Vijay Singh, who shot 67,
and Briny Baird, who carded a 70.
He collected £420,000 and - just as importantly - a two-year tour exemption.
Singh, the world's top-ranked player, was seeking his ninth victory of the
year. He was still in the hunt until he bogeyed the 16th hole.
