Bart Bryant had a much better weekend than his Ryder Cup compatriots.

Bryant won for the first time in his PGA Tour career when claiming the Valero Texas Open and a coveted two-year exemption.

A day after firing a course-record 60, Bryant shot a three-under-par 67 to finish at 19 under on 261 - three shots clear of Patrick Sheehan, who carded a 66.

Bryant, 41, has made the PGA Tour through the Qualifying School a staggering five times and his best career finish previously was a seventh at the 1991 Honda Classic.

Sheehan finished on 264, one shot better than Todd Fischer (67) and Dean Wilson (66) at a LaCantera Golf Club that was not as forgiving as it was on Saturday, when Bryant grabbed the lead with his record-setting round.

JL Lewis had the best score of the final round with a 63.
