BUICK TITLE BREAKS KAYE DUCK

Jonathan Kaye has claimed his first PGA Tour win, eagling the first play-off hole to defeat John Rollins and win the Buick Classic.

Winless in his first 194 PGA Tour starts, Kaye survived a marathon, roller-coaster day at rain-plagued Westchester Country Club, playing 30 holes on the final day after rain forced a suspension a day earlier.

Kaye birdied the par-five 18th in regulation to force a play-off and eagled it with a 15-foot putt from the fringe in sudden death.

He had an eagle, three birdies and a par at the hole this week.

A five-time runner-up in parts of nine PGA Tour seasons, Kaye played 30 holes in nine-under and finished regulation tied with Rollins at 13-under 271. Joey Sindelar was third at 273.

With the £540,000 top prize, Kaye jumped from 63rd into the top 15 on the money list with a career-best £887,000. He had never pocketed more than £660,000 in a season.

Rollins grabbed the clubhouse lead with a four-under 67 and watched from off the 18th green as Kaye caught him. Rollins then drove under a tree to the left of the 18th fairway, putting himself in trouble.

It was the second career play-off for Rollins, who defeated Neal Lancaster last year at the Canadian Open.
