John Patrick Hayes produced another near perfect round of golf to win the John
Deere Classic at Illinois.
The 36-year-old carded a four-under-par 67 to claim the 540,000 US dollars
first prize.
Hayes also ended a four-year winless streak, landing his first trophy since
the Buick Classic in 1998.
The El Paso-based player made just one bogey in four trips around the TPC at
Deere Run, and set a tournament record for 72 holes with his 22-under 262
total.
Hayes' only bogey came on the par-four eighth hole on Friday, when he set a
course record 61.
He carded 67s in his other three rounds to recorded a four-stroke triumph over
third-round co-leader Robert Gamez.
Kirk Triplett fired a five-under 66 to grab third place at 267, one shot
better than Pat Perez.
