Len Mattiace joined Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson in an elite group by
erasing a seven-stroke deficit to win the St Jude Classic.
Mattiace birdied five of the last eight holes en route to a seven-under-par 64
and his second career title.
He has won both this season, joining the top two players in the world as the
only multiple winners on the PGA Tour in 2002.
The 34-year-old Mattiace is in his eighth full year on tour. He earned just
over £1.8million in his first 216 events but has collected more than £1.2million
in 17 this season.
Mattiace finished at 18-under 266 - the best four-round total in relation to
par on the tour since late March, when Vijay Singh won the Houston Open at
22-under 266.
PGA Tour rookie Tim Petrovic made a late run at his first career title but
narrowly missed a 35-foot birdie putt on the final hole of regulation and ended
up a career-best second at 17-under 267.
Surprise third-round leader Glen Hnatiuk of Canada matched the worst round of
the day with a 77 and tied for 12th at 12-under 272.
Notah Begay III, who won here two years ago, was third at 268, a stroke better
than David Toms.
