Nick Price claimed his first PGA Tour win in four years as he cruised to his
second career win at The Colonial.
The Zimbabwean struggled early before pulling away with a three-under-par 67
and overcame consecutive bogeys on the front nine by playing the final 12 holes
in three-under, enabling him to finish five shots better than David Toms and
Kenny Perry.
Closer to the Senior Tour than his prime, Price won on the PGA Tour for the
first time since the St Jude Classic four years ago.
"It feels like 10," said Price. "I didn't think this day was going to
come."
He earned his 17th PGA Tour win - four of which have come in Texas - and 41st
worldwide.
"This one came from right field," said Price, who in 1994 won seven times
across the world, including The Colonial and two of his three major titles.
"It wasn't sitting there in front of me like so many of those in the early
1990s."
Price finished with a 72-hole total of 13-under 267. Toms and Perry were at
272, with Dudley Hart at 273 and Davis Love III and Phil Tataurangi at 274.
Tom Watson had the surprise week, finishing alone in seventh at 275 as he took
the week off from the Senior Tour.
Price ended the third round with a five-shot lead but still did not feel
comfortable.
"Sleeping on a five-shot lead is not fun at all when you haven't won in such
a long time," he said.
