Matt Kuchar claimed his first victory on the PGA Tour with a final-round
six-under-par 66 at the Honda Classic.
The former US amateur champion, competing in just his 17th PGA Tour event,
grabbed sole possession of the lead with a birdie at the 14th hole and never let
go, holding off a group that included Joey Sindelar, Brad Faxon and playing
partner Brett Quigley.
The 23-year-old Kuchar finished the tournament with a total of 19-under-par
269 to claim the £443,000 top prize.
Seeking his first title since 1990, the 43-year-old Sindelar bogeyed the 17th
hole and tied Faxon for second at 17 under.
Quigley bogeyed the last two holes and tied Billy Andrade and JL Lewis one
shot further back.
Third-round leader Mike Weir shot a 75 to finish in a 10-way tie for 11th at
275.
