Chris DiMarco overcame some late jitters to hold on for a one-stroke victory
in the PGA Tour Phoenix Open.
DiMarco carded a two-under-par 69 and finished with a four-round total of
17-under 267, one stroke better than Kenny Perry and Japan's Kaname Yokoo.
One of the rising stars on the PGA Tour, DiMarco has won for the third
straight year.
In 2000, he did not win until September at the SEI Pennsylvania Classic
whereas last year he had 10 top-10 finishes but did not win until October at the
Buick Challenge.
DiMarco recovered from an awful stretch early in the back nine where he gave
back four shots - and the lead - in three holes.
He began the day one shot behind Duffy Waldorf, who closed with a two-over 73
and finished at 14-under 270, three strokes off the pace.
Perry has played in the final group three times this year but has yet to win,
finishing third at the Mercedes Championships and sixth at the Bob Hope
Classic.
Yokoo closed with a 64 for the best finish of his brief PGA Tour career.
