Ireland's Padraig Harrington got a £76,400 boost ahead of USPGA Championship.
Harrington shot a final round 69 to finish joint sixth in the Buick Open in
Michigan and collect a healthy pay cheque.
Overnight leader Kenny Perry made three birdies in a bogey-free final round to
win his first tournament since 1995 and the fourth of his career.
Perry's 25-under 263 was two strokes ahead of Chris DiMarco (65) and Jim Furyk
(66), who improved their Ryder Cup chances with strong performances, and five
clear of Harrington.
Three birdies in the first four holes shot Harrington, tied for second after
the third round, into contention.
But three consecutive bogeys from the fifth wrecked his hopes of winning, and
he needed three back-nine birdies to haul himself back up the leaderboard.
Perry picked up 150 Ryder Cup points with the win, but his 254 points are not
enough to be in the top 25 in the race to make the American team.
"I didn't even look at the Ryder Cup, I'm so far behind," Perry said. "I
hadn't won in six years and this was a very key win for me, especially with a
five-shot lead."
Perry began the final round with a large lead after setting a tournament
record with a 22-under 194 total. He finished one stroke away from tying Robert
Wrenn's 72-hole Buick Open record.
