GARCIA CLAIMS BUICK VICTORY

By Tony Kelshaw, PA Sport

Sergio Garcia shot a final round four-under-par 67 to hold onto his lead in the USPGA Buick Classic and capture his second PGA Tour title in five weeks.

The 21-year-old Spaniard posted between 66 and 68 on each of the four days to finish 16 under for the tournament.

His consistency enabled him to see off a strong challenge from Scott Hoch, who briefly caught Garcia after birdies at the fourth and fifth.

But as Garcia continued to make birdies on the back nine, Hoch could only manage eight straight pars and came in three shots adrift at 13 under.

Billy Andrade, Stewart Cink and JP Hayes all tied for third place on 11 under par.

The final day's biggest mover was Australia's Robert Allenby who stormed up the leaderboard with a final round seven under par to tie for eighth spot on 9 under for the tournament.

Not surprisingly most of the attention was on Tiger Woods after his poor showing at the US Open and he failed to re-find his form, eventually coming home equal sixteenth on four under for the tournament.

Bogeys on the first two holes of the final day ruined any chance of Woods making a serious challenge and afterwards he was in reflective mood.

"You can't play good every week, but what you can do is try. I tried on every shot. It really wasn't there. There's not more I can do about it," he said.

Woods said he would be going fishing to give himself a break from golf: "Nothing's the matter, I just don't want to play. I just need a little time off."
