Bob Estes survived some late jitters to hold off a strong challenge from
Germany's Bernhard Langer at the St Jude Classic in Memphis.
Bogeys at 14 and 15 saw Estes, who had led throughout the tournament following
a first-round 61, going into the final hole with just a one-shot lead.
But the 35-year-old from Texas pitched his second shot at the par-four 18th to
within three feet of the pin and, despite taking two putts from such a short
distance, he closed with a level-par 71 to claim victory on 17 under par.
It was a second PGA Tour title for Estes, his first coming way back in 1994 at
the Texas Open.
Langer had closed with a bogeyless 66 to move up to second from joint-fifth
overnight.
Tom Lehman matched that final-day score to finish one shot further back on 15
under and claim a share of third alongside Scott McCarron, who stuttered to a 72
on day four.
Sweden's Jesper Parnevik and England's Nick Faldo also upheld European honour
after finishing in joint-eighth and joint-10th, both closing with a 69 to finish
on 13 under and 12 under respectively.
