Tiger Woods was delighted after winning the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield
Village - the course designed by Jack Nicklaus - for the third successive year.
Woods blasted a final-round 66 to leave him seven shots clear of Paul Azinger
and Sergio Garcia.
He said: "Any tournament that Jack Nicklaus is affiliated with is going to be
run with the utmost of integrity and class.
"To be able to put my name on the trophy three times is awfully special."
It was the fourth title of 2001 for the world's top-ranked golfer, who became
the first player to win the same tournament three years in a row on the PGA Tour
since Tom Watson captured the Byron Nelson Classic from 1978-80.
Continuing preparation for his US Open title defence in two weeks in Tulsa,
Woods finished on 17-under-par, two strokes off his winning score here last
year.
Azinger, who won the Memorial in 1993, took a one-stroke lead into the final
round after the players completed the third round of the rain-plagued tournament
on Sunday morning.
However, he struggled to a two-over 74 in the final round and lost the lead
when Woods eagled the par-five fifth hole.
Garcia, who won his first PGA Tour title two weeks ago at the Colonial, posted
a one-under 71 to gain a share of second.
Meanwhile Woods will equal Greg Norman's record streak of 96 successive weeks at world number one when he steps on to the fairways of Southern Hills in Oklahoma at the US Open in two weeks time.
His Ohio victory extended his already commanding lead at the top of the rankings to nearly 20 points ahead of Phil Mickelson.
Woods' incredible points average now stands at 32.44pts, with Mickelson a very distant second with 13.15.
Runner-up Sergio Garcia continues his move up the rankings by advancing to the highest position of his career at number seven, while joint-runner-up Paul Azinger has moved up eight places to 23rd.
