3 MAJORS US Masters 2004, 2006
USPGA 2005 31 US Tour wins
6 Ryder Cups (1995-2006)
USPGA PROFILE
What can you say about the mercurial world number three? It really is impossible to predict which Phil is going to turn up. He was sublime in winning the Players Championship just weeks after linking up with Butch Harmon and it looked as though the combination could go on to create the sort of dominance that was predicted for Phil when he won on Tour in 1991 as an amateur. But since Sawgrass, Mickelson has been in meltdown. He missed the cut at the US Open after a closing 77 - his first missed cut in a major for 31 events - and then failed to get anything going at Carnoustie and also missed the weekend. He should have won the US Open at Southern Hills in 2001 and broken his major duck, but a closing 75 saw him finish six shots out of the play-off. After that and plenty of other agonising near mises, he has done well to actually win three majors, including the USPGA two years ago. But his poor recent play suggests he has it all to do to add a fourth.
