Gentleman Jim always seems to be there or thereabouts in the majors and for that reason is much-beloved of each way punters. Furyk has had 16 top 10s in majors over the last decade but has managed just one win, in the 2003 US Open at Olympia Fields, when he recorded the lowest four-round score in the history of the event - 272. Furyk should really have won at Oakmont earlier this season but bogeyed the 17th although he did bag his first win of the season by winning in Canada two weeks ago. However, he had to pull out of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational with a back injury which casts doubt over his chances here. Despite a lowly 62nd place finish when this course last hosted a major in 2001, Furyk would be on most shortlists if fully fit so punters will be keeping a close eye on how his injury progresses during the practice rounds.
