GOLF NOT THE PRIORITY FOR AMES
Stephen Ames had more important things than trying to win a USPGA championship
to think about when he resumed at Baltusrol in joint 15th place.
The former European Tour player's Canadian wife, Jodie, had three-quarters of
one lung removed the day after the Open last month following the discovery of
cancer.
"She recuperating right now," said Ames, born in Trinidad, but now a
Canadian citizen himself.
The couple, who have sons aged eight and six, have been given a hopeful
prognosis by doctors and Ames' wife will not need chemotherapy after the
surgery.
