USPGA QUOTES

Darren Clarke(65): I'm obviously very pleased because on Sunday I didn't think I'd be shooting 65 on Thursday - but I would definitely expect this course to bare its teeth. It was softer after the rain we had; it was not blowing hard, and some of the pins were reasonable to get at. By the end of the week people will be seeing how difficult this course is, but it's a fantastic one as well - and I'd still be saying that if I'd shot 77.

Tiger Woods (75): I putted atrociously. The course was a lot easier than the practice round; you could be aggressive, but I just didn't hit the ball on the greens at the right speed and on the right lines. If I had just putted normally I would have been under par.

Ernie Els (66): I made some putts. But I drove it well, and that was the key. I can't bring back what happened (earlier this season) - and although I think about it every now and again, it's done; it's history. I've got another chance here and I'm excited about that.

Padraig Harrington (68): I would have taken that when I started - and certainly when I was two over.
