Shaun Micheel (68): "Today, I came to the golf course a little bit early and felt like I had keyed in on something on the range, and I was glad to get off to a couple good tee shots early on. So I don't see any reason why tomorrow will be any different. I mean, it probably will be, but if I keep hitting the fairway -- I mean, I'm smart enough, played this game long enough, to know that I can hit some middles of the greens and position my ball, keep my ball below the hole, that I can make some putts. There's no reason why I can't have another good day tomorrow and even Sunday."
Adam Scott (69): "I was pretty happy with 69 today, that's for sure. I just made a couple of putts and that was really the difference from yesterday."
Ernie Els (70): "It could be one of the toughest ever. It is not as long as Bethpage, but it definitely has the rough. Already we have seen the greens firm up a little bit and it doesn't look like it is going to rain again, so it will be tough to go under par. I think the golf course at the moment is pretty fair. It still has some moisture in it. There is no question about this golf course maybe being too easy."
Darren Clarke (70): "I hit the ball well, but scored terrible. It's one of the best courses I've
ever played, though. Very tough, but very fair."
Mike Weir (71): "71 was a pretty good score today. I didn't quite strike it as well as yesterday, but overall, I did all right. I played okay. Wasn't the finish I was looking for, but that's this golf course. You miss a shot a little bit off-line, it's going to bite you."
Tiger Woods (72): "I didn't control my distances well today, and consequently, I was always in a bad spot. When I was in an aggressive situation, I didn't hit it close and I put myself under a lot of pressure. Overall, I just didn't hit the ball in birdie range. Heading into tomorrow, I just need to give myself some looks at the putts."
Billy Andrade (72): "I felt like I survived today. I played well. I made some bogeys but I made a few birdies, which helped, and I’m pretty happy shooting 72, as difficult as I thought it played. You know, what can I say, I’m under par after two days and I like where I’m standing. I like my chances and I can’t wait for the weekend."
Chad Campbell (72): "I'm pretty happy the way I played today. I was really happy the way I played yesterday. Today I didn't hit it very good. I drove it in the rough a little bit, and didn't hit my irons. I didn't hit a lot of greens and just didn't hit a lot of good iron shots to give my self a chance to make birdies. But you can't complain with 2-over (par) and I made a couple good pars today."
Tim Herron (72): "This is a very difficult golf course and the biggest key is I'm putting well and giving myself a lot of chances at par putts. If the pars don't go in, bogeys not a horrible score."
Fred Funk (73): "I think this will be a survival test to the end. It will be a big advantage for the guys who can spin the ball more and hold these greens."
Colin Montgomerie (74): "That 74 is OK - it's about par today. It was very, very tough out there today. One of the toughest courses I've ever played out there today."
Phil Mickelson (75): "I thought the biggest difference for me today was actually, well, two things. When I missed the driver, it was to the right, which is not good for me. Yesterday it was to the left and that was okay. And the second thing was, I didn't make any putts. I didn't hit bad putts; I just didn't make any. It's very tough to make them, but yesterday I was able to and today I just wasn't."
Padraig Harrington (76): "I don't feel hard done by. I had a few putts horseshoe out, but they were always for saves. I didn't play very well. The course is tough, but
very playable - the pins were slightly harder today, but you do get birdie opportunities if you are playing well."
Aaron Baddeley (77): (After missing tee-time and incurring two-shot penalty) "I was walking to the tee when a
friend told me. I said `are you serious?' and then began running. It's one of those things. There's nothing you can do. I was a little bit annoyed at first. I thought my two tee-off times were 12.35 and 7.35."
Lee Westwood (78): "If next week (the NEC world championship in Ohio) wasn't four rounds without
a cut I'd be going home. At the moment I feel it's a
waste of time."
David Duval (WD): (After retiring on the fifth hole with a bad back) "I hit my tee shot on five and that was it. I can tell it's not right. I hurt it last week with the first tee shot. I felt all right when I woke up, but I'm going back to Florida for a while. We have to give it a few days and see how it feels. I don't even want to speculate."
