USPGA PROFILE
Toms took his place among the golfing elite by winning the USPGA Championship at Atlanta Country Club last year. To followers of the man from Louisiana it didn't come as a shock. The 35-year-old has been one of the most improved players in the game over the last three years, notching up seven US Tour wins. One of the keys has been Toms' ability to hold onto leads when hitting the front and he did just that in his USPGA triumph last year when holding off world No2 Phil Mickelson down the stretch. Although he hasn't added another win since then he's been knocking at the door this season with runners-up finishes at the Mercedes and Colonial and a creditable tied 10th at last week's Buick Open. Seems to play his best golf in the second-half of the year and likely to put up a brave defence of his title.
