USPGA PROFILE
The hugely talented left-hander has risen to second in the world without winning a major although the near misses are numerous. In the first two majors of the year he was again in contention only to be denied by that man Tiger Woods. Mickelson finished third at Augusta before coming runner-up at the US Open. But perhaps his nearest miss came in last year's USPGA when only an inspired finish from David Toms denied him glory. Mickelson fits the bill of past USPGA winners - players in their 30s seeking a first major - and it must surely be a matter of time before he gets the job done. Hazeltine could be the perfect venue.
