US OPEN PROFILE
Mickelson is due a change of luck in the second Major of the season after four heartbreaking second places in the last 10 years. And none more so than last year's dramatic events at Winged Foot when Lefty blew a glorious winning position to allow Geoff Ogilvy to sneak through to claim the title. Mickelson was tied 47th at Oakmont when Ernie Els triumphed in 1994 but that was only his second appearance in the event. A rather lack-lustre effort in this season's US Masters - one of Mickelson's favourite events - failed to dent his confidence and last month he hit a sizzling run of form culminating with victory in the PLAYERS Championship at Sawgrass. He looks primed for a big week as long as all is well with a wrist injury sustained at The Memorial.
