US OPEN PROFILE
Consistent Jim Furyk started 2007 in inimitable style following a pre-Christmas boost of winning the Nedbank Challenge from an elite field in South Africa. Though Furyk has yet to win this year, he has bagged four top 10 finishes but failed to build upon a solid 13th at the US Masters by missing his next two cuts. Furyk cemented a consistent US Open record by taking the title in 2003 for the only Major win of his career. He led from the front before running out a three-stroke winner from Stephen Leaney. Last year at Winged Foot, he almost reaped the benefit of the 18th hole dramatics from Phil Mickelson and Colin Montgomerie but finished one shot behind winner Geoff Ogilvy. His solid all-round game should ensure he is a leading contender again this year.
