| US OPEN PROFILE |
 |
| Ernie was the champion the last time the US Open was played at Oakmont back in 1994 and the 'Big Easy' will be looking for those happy memories to kick-start a season that promised so much but has so far delivered precious little. Els was at or very near his peak 13 years ago when he was coolness personified in the dramatic play-off against Colin Montgomerie and Loren Roberts to become the youngest winner of the US Open for almost 20 years. Els' renowned patience in testing conditions resurfaced in the US Open with a second win three years later at the Congressional club. Els grabbed his last Major in the 2002 British Open though his US Open record still remains creditable with top 30 finishes in each of the last five years. He has had a couple of runners-up spots this year and can never be written off in an event he often excels in. |
