Geoff Ogilvy (72): "This is the last one (major) I would have thought I was going to win because I don't drive it very straight and I demonstrated that on the last nine holes. I didn't drive it very straight. But I've always been decent at grinding it out when par has been a good score. If you really set your mind to it and have the right attitude about it, it can be quite enjoyable. It's obviously hard work, but it's quite enjoyable when you feel like you're really, really struggling and you look at the leaderboard and everyone else is making bogeys and stuff."
Phil Mickelson (74): "I'm still in shock that I did that. I'm such an idiot. I just can't believe I couldn't par the last. It really stings. This one hurts more than any tournament because I had it won. I had it in my grasp and let it go. This is going to take a while to get over."
Colin Montgomerie (71): "It's the first time I've really messed up. My other chances other people have done well, this is the first time I've really messed up." After revealing he had changed from a six-iron to a seven-iron on the 18th: "I thought adrenalin would kick in, but I caught it slightly heavy and it went right. It was a poor shot, no question about it, and I put myself in a poor position."
Jim Furyk (70): "I'm disappointed. I played my heart out and it didn't work. You know, all of us I can look back and say, "Boy, I could have got it in the house at 4 over pretty easy today standing where I was on the 13th tee and thinking about hitting the shots that I hit." But I'm sure all those guys coming in behind me can also think of a way to save a couple of shots here or there, too. You know, I feel I'm happy that I went out there and played well today. It was a lot of fun to be in the thick of it. But overall I'm also disappointed because I let an opportunity to win the US Open slip by."
Padraig Harrington (71): "I'm very disappointed. Three pars to win the Open. It probably doesn't get any easier than that. I hit three good tee shots and got it in play but that's the way it goes. I certainly ruined this one. I was never happy with my game and it just caught me out a little bit at the end. I knew I was there or thereabouts and I was trying to make birdies on the last three holes."
