Peter Hedblom (66): "You come up here some weeks and everything is perfect; you feel good and you shoot 75. And then today, I didn't feel that good, but I just just every shot trying to hit the simplest shot for me and that worked today. Obviously holing a lot of putts is going to help."
Sergio Garcia (69): "The course is not going to get any easier. I feel very happy. I
feel like I played very solid all day. I felt I played very
smart."
Michael Campbell (69): "Two shots easier today, definitely. Different wind direction, but it made the harder holes a little bit easier."
Vijay Singh (70): "I drove it really where I wanted to and hit my iron shots a lot of times I played away from the flags to the front part of the greens, but the putts were the problem today."
Paul McGinley (72): "My putter has been icy cold and putting well is a pre-requisite in US
Opens."
Padraig Harrington (74): "I was in the rough eight times (off the tee) and on seven of those I
couldn't make the green." That's a lot of shots to make up and I didn't putt particularly well."
Colin Montgomerie (75): "I had an horrendous start. A terrible, terrible start. My irons are not quite good enough and I'm not holing any putts, but it's
just so hard."
Phil Mickelson (77): "It's a tough course. I putted pretty poorly, especially the short ones. That was the biggest thing. You just can't play aggressive here. The more you try to make birdies the more bogeys you're going to make."
