Hamilton provided the second successive surprise in the Open Championship when he got the better of Ernie Els to lift the famous Claret Jug at Troon last year. A proven winning pedigree in Japan and triumphant in the 2004 Honda Classic, Hamilton was superb under pressure on the final day and more success looks sure to come his way. Whether it is this week on the back of an average run of form remains to be seen, although he has admitted to enjoying courses when they are set up to play tough.
