Toms cruised to victory at the WGC World Match Play at La Costa in February and the Louisiana native looked poised for a massive 2005. That has yet to materialise as a series of missed cuts followed but he hinted his form was somewhere near returning thanks to a decent finish at the Bank of America Colonial. Patient and very rarely flustered, Toms has the ideal temperament for a US Open and it would not be the biggest shock to see him add to his one major crown at Pinehurst No.2.
