US OPEN PROFILE
The days when Monty was one of the fancied runners for the USPGA are long gone but at least he heads to Oak Hill in good spirits after an impressive second place in the Nordic Open last week. This is Montgomerie's 12th crack at the USPGA title and he was so nearly successful on his fourth visit. Monty heroically birdied the last three holes to force a play-off but Steve Elkington birdied the first extra hole to deny him a first Major. Monty's search continues but these days it's more in hope than expectation.
