 US OPEN QUOTES

Jim Furyk (67): I don't know if I had any expectations. My goal was to go out and play a solid round of golf, and I put myself in position for Sunday. I did that. Mission accomplished."

Vijay Singh (72): "I don't think it was any more difficult than it was yesterday. The pin placements are a little bit more tougher. The last three holes, I'm a little disappointed the way I finished, but like I said, there's a lot of holes tomorrow."

Stephen Leaney (68): "I guess the pleasing thing for me was I stuck to my game plan. I haven't been putting well, and that's probably what's been hurting me. I've been driving the ball well. I put a new driver in the last five weeks, and that's probably been - I guess that's why I felt confident coming in."

Mike Weir (68): "Making the turn" obviously I felt very good, and even the backside I felt very good. It just seems so far this week when I miss a fairway, my scrambling isn't the greatest. I get it right beside the green and I'm not able to convert a par save. That's the only difference. I'd have to probably shoot a Johnny Miller-like round tomorrow. You never know, it could happen."

Ian Leggatt (68): "I felt like I've been progressively getting better and better the last four or five weeks, so I'm just going to stick with my game plan the way I've been playing. I'm still playing fairly conservative for the most part, but tomorrow is a different day and now we've got a lot harder, more difficult conditions, so playing more conservative tomorrow. Not firing at flags and whatnot is probably going to be the plan."

Nick Price (69): "If I have one wish tomorrow, that's to drive the ball in the fairway. I'd love to just have what I would call my bread and better Sunday at a major championship with a driver. It hasn't been strong. I think today I'm a little cagey, I tried to stear the ball a little bit with the driver, and tomorrow I've just got to go out and be positive and aggressive with my driver. That's the only way to get over that."

Justin Rose (70): "It would be nice to finish under par. I was much more solid off the tee today, but three-putted the 10th and hit a bad seven-iron on the 11th. At least I don't panic any more - that's one good thing and half the battle. My patience was good again."

Colin Montgomerie (71): "Same as most days - I'm just not very good right now. Missing two cuts in a row was not the best preparation to say the least and my objective on the plane over was to play all four rounds. I fulfilled that - just."

Darren Clarke (72): "You can't get it done with 34 putts. I didn't play as well as the first two days, but I gave myself more chances - very strange. But I didn't make anything and I think tomorrow I will close my eyes and hit it. I had my opportunities to be right in the thick of it. I ought to be an awful lot better than I am, but once again I have not taken them."

Padraig Harrington (72): "I needed to put in a very good one and didn't do that, so I'm just playing for my pride tomorrow. I was quite happy and felt good about my game, but then I missed some fairways and that killed me. Also I've putted very poorly and that's the crux. If you can't make birdies the bogeys really hurt. It's just one of those weeks. I was putting great a month ago and terrible this week."

Brian Davis (74): "A few bad drives cost me dear and I missed four putts from inside four feet."

Tiger Woods (75): "Well, I didn't play that poorly, that's the funny thing. I hit a lot of good shots but I made nothing today. I could never get a feel for the line. Eduardo (Romero) and I were talking about this going up 17 how slow the greens were today. We couldn't hit the putts hard enough. I left every putt on the low side short, and the only putt I made I said, you know, just hit it three feet by, and it went in the hole for birdie. That's the only putt I made all day."

Tom Watson (75): "I had a bad round today. Very simply I didn't put the ball in the fairway, and when I did put the ball in the fairway I didn't put it on the greens. It was a tough day for me."
