US OPEN PROFILE
Howell has cemented his position as one of game's rising stars with a win at the Michelob Championship in 2002, his first on Tour. More good performances, including a play-off loss to Mike Weir at the Nissan Open, have followed and the victories are sure to start flowing with regularity before too long. He started the Memorial Tournament with a blistering 64 before fading badly - but it highlights this guy's incredible ability to score when he is on form. A monster hitter for one so slight, he might have to tone things down a notch or two this week and his attacking style may not be ideally suited to a US Open layout. He looks banker material for Major honours at some stage but might have to wait a little longer. He also took part in the FBR Capital and let's hope his preparation has not been upset too much.
