US OPEN PROFILE
The cavalier career of the young Spaniard has been derailed somewhat in 2003 as he undergoes some renovation to his swing. The alterations will be of benefit to him in the long term but at the moment he is struggling to be competitive yet alone win golf tournaments. Five missed cuts from his last seven events illustrate the point perfectly but Garcia, to his credit, has handled the slump with good grace and will continue to plug away until things eventually turn around. When on song, the US Open is ideal for Garcia as his brilliant driving will always be a huge advantage. He squandered a good chance two years ago when a horrible final round saw him drop right out of contention. It is not going to be easy for Garcia with his game in transitional phase but he is sure to give it 100 percent. He will focus on making the cut first and then take it from there if around for the weekend.
