US OPEN SET FOR DOUBLE DOSE OF HAAS

By Mark Garrod, PA Sport Golf Correspondent

Jay Haas will be up early for his first round in the United States Open on Thursday - even though he does not tee off until 1.10pm.

The 49-year-old plans to be by the first tee at 7.20am when his son Bill drives off in his first major championship.

Amateur Bill, 21, qualified for Olympia Fields last week and his father, nine times a winner on the US Tour and playing his 24th US Open, said: "I played in a couple of them as an amateur, so I know how exciting it is for him.

"I'm probably as excited as I've ever been for a major tournament. I'd say it's a dream come true - but I never could have dreamed something like this."

Having them in opposite halves of the draw means Jay's wife Janice can see them both play their entire rounds on Thursday and Friday. Jay intends watching a few holes of his son before preparing for his own round.
