DAVIS AND PARNEVIK MAKE US OPEN

Londoner Brian Davis and Ryder Cup Swede Jesper Parnevik have both qualified
for next week's US Open at Olympia Fields near Chicago.
Davis, who has never before appeared in a Major championship in the States,
shared top spot with American Bryce Molder in the qualifying tournament at North
Shore Country Club in Glenview, Illinois, on Monday.
Both had rounds of 68 and 66 for an eight-under-par total of 134 as 61 players
battled for just four spots.
Parnevik's scores of 68 and 70 in Columbus, Ohio, squeezed him through with
only one stroke to spare from a competition where 101 players were competing for
20 places.
Performance of the day came there from Stewart Cink, who two years after
double-bogeying the last hole to finish third in the US Open returned scores of
62 and 61.
"I've played some good rounds before but that was kind of ridiculous," said
Cink, who won by nine.
Former Major winners Mark Calcavecchia and Bob Tway also came through in
Columbus, but Australian Peter O'Malley, winner of the English Open two years
ago, was among the unsuccessful golfers.
Further qualifying events were taking place on Tuesday.
