The 2001 US Open may always haunt Cink. After missing a 12 foot putt on the final green, Cink thought his chances of victory had gone and didn't bother to take care with his two-foot tap-in for bogey and missed. But with Retief Goosen missing a tiddler of his own, Cink was left with the knowledge that had he knocked in his simple return putt he would have made a play-off. Carrying that baggage into this year's tournament could be a problem but it could also spur him on to another serious challenge. Cink has the ideal game and character for a US Open and his record proves it. His third place last year added to previous US Open finishes of 16-13-10-32-8 and his latest form suggests he has to go well again. Last week he finished tied fifth at the Buick Classic and his previous start yielded a top ten at the Memorial.
