In just three years on Tour Weir has proved he has an extra touch of class. He first came to prominence in 1999 when leading the USPGA Championship after three rounds. On that occasion he looked phased when partnering Tiger Woods in the final round and finished 10th. But the following year he proved he'd learned from that experience when beating a world-class field at the World Golf Championship-American Express Championship at Valderrama. He again showed his liking for the big-time when capturing the end-of-season Tour Championship last year. Weir thinks that the US and British Opens represent his best chances of winning a Major so it's worth taking the hint. He's made the top 20 in his last two US Opens and arrives at Bethpage on the back of a tied 12th in the Buick Classic. He could be a dark horse worth backing.
