Garcia started the season like a house on fire as he captured the Mercedes Championship in Hawaii. And his strong play continued through the US Masters where he finished eighth. But after a disastrous May which brought two missed cuts and a 73rd in his three US starts there were rumours that his off-course romance with tennis star Martina Hingis had caused him to lose focus. However a tied 12th in defence of his Buick Classic crown last week suggests he's ready for another tilt at landing his first Major. Many thought it would come in last year's US Open when he started the final day as favourite but a disastrous final round 77 cost him dearly. If he can avoid a similar collapse his excellent driving should put him in position for another serious challenge.
