Day Three - April 7

Stuart Appleby (73): "Overall it was very comfortable out there considering conditions were an extreme opponent. Really played decent all day. You know, played smart, did the right things at the right time. 17, I hit a bad tee shot and really was trying to - from where I saw my lie, I thought, well, if I make a five, that will be pretty good. And really, the whole day was a bit like that, you know, extracted par sometimes, in really difficult situations where I thought maybe I need to realistically think about a bogey. Yeah, would loved to have had that sandshot again and not was trying to be greedy but just, you know, look, should have been in the middle of the fairway, no two ways about it, or somewhere a bit more respectable. Yeah, that was the hole that I let a couple of shots slip for sure. Overall I felt like there was plenty of holes where I could have let more slip throughout the day. I just happened to bunch one hole up and have a triple."

Tiger Woods (72): "They (conditions) were tough. You had to stay patient, you had to hit quality shots, and get very lucky at the same time. Because you can hit a great shot and get absolutely hosed out here. And a lot of shots that Paul (Casey) hit today that he got the wrong gusts and vice versa, and I got a couple good breaks there in the wind. Number 10 was a perfect example. He got a good gust, got to the hole. I got the wrong one and ended up way short. That's the way it is. We all are struggling in it together. We just got to get by."

Zach Johnson (76): "I felt comfortable out there. I'm trying not to get emotional. You just have to be patient. Four over is just a number. There is no par out there. Who is to say 72 is par? I didn't putt as well today. I played the last six holes even par and I three-putted 16 again. So, I'm pleased with my round. I don't mind the grind. I enjoy difficult conditions and situations."

Vaughn Taylor (77): "It was a tough day. It didn't feel like I played particularly well all day. But you know, it was really tough. It felt like the front nine, I hit a lot of good shots that didn't turn out too well. You know, the wind was really tricky, and you almost had to decide last minute how to hit the shot. It was - you know, you would be walking to the ball and the wind, you feel at your back and you're waggling and feeling it moving everywhere and it's tough. You really have to commit to the shot you're going to hit. When the wind is changing that much, it's almost last-minute sometimes. It's not really the way you want to play."

Justin Rose (75): "Obviously I got off to a bad start, somewhat reminiscent of three years ago. But what I was pleased about was that it didn't affect me and I turned it around."

Bradley Dredge (76): "I just need to go out there, put it all together and see what happens. It feels more like I'm in Cardiff than Augusta with the weather. At least we have no rain. Mind you, we could have snow it's that cold. But it's fantastic to be here and I'm just trying my best on every shot."

Jerry Kelly (78): "The cold didn't get me. I prepared. The people from the north can handle the cold. It was extremely fair out there. If you hit it in the right spot, it would stop. It was not unfair. It was good, solid, Major conditions. It was tough. When the wind's blowing, it just has to be perfect. There's no margin. The course is in perfect shape. I was just focused on the golf course. I cut myself some slack. I just went through my routine. There's an even par score out there."

Jim Furyk (76): "I'm still in it. I'm a little mad at myself. There's a good chance tomorrow, I'm four back. A lot of guys will look at it and say, "What could have been." When I had the opportunities to make birdies I turned it into a bogey. I'm a little mad at myself, but I'll regroup and look at the positives. I'm hearing it's supposed to be windy tomorrow. Coming from 10 players in front of me, tough conditions is probably what I would like. I'm hoping the conditions and course will be tough tomorrow. That is as tough as I've seen here."

Lucas Glover (79): "The golf course is winning again. Today was a day of survival. I got a little unlucky on number 15. I caught a gust and got unlucky with the wind. Except for that one, it was pretty much my fault. I just didn't make anything. Didn't make a big putt. I didn't putt that bad, the greens are just tough. I didn't execute when I had to, I made a couple of mental mistakes, and was unlucky a time or two."

Phil Mickelson (73): "I know over par is going to be the winning score. It's going to be a tough task, but it's not impossible. It was not as hard as it could have been because some water was put on the greens. I will try to gather a game plan tonight. It's tough to be aggressive at all with these conditions. You have to be patient. It was a fair challenge. As tough as it is, I didn't think it was unfair by any means. It's a challenge to make pars. You have to fight on every hole to make par here. "

David Toms (74): "Actually, I played pretty well today. I got back in it on the front and then couldn't pick a club on the back nine (with the wind.) It got to the point where you didn't worry about the ball moving on the greens. I didn't knock myself out of it. When it plays like this, the ones who hit fairways have the advantage. These conditions place a premium on driving the ball straight more than ever."

Sandy Lyle (80): "I've four-putted before, but I don't think I've ever five-putted. It's like walking a landmine all the time out there. I've been in Florida for a month practising, but considering my preparation was nil in terms of playing tournaments I was very pleased with making the cut."

Charles Howell III (75): "The golf course is hard. And today, with the greens still firm and fast, it was difficult. Birdies are tough to come by today. Adam Scott and I didn't play that bad to shoot three and four over. There just aren't many birdie holes out there."
